SHIC Plan Changes - August 2011
Published 26th July 2011, 3:41pm
The following changes will be effected to our existing plans, effective August 1st, 2011
Plan name changes
The current plans name changes will become effective August 1st, 2011.
- "Low Income Plan 1 or Plan 2" will change to "Affordable" or "Affordable Plus"
- "Elderly Plan 1 or Plan 2" will change to "Silver" or "Silver Plus"
- "Health Impaired Plan 1 or Plan 2" will change to "Challenger" or "Challenger Plus"
Eligibility change
Members who are currently enrolled in our Challenger plan (formerly Health Impaired Plan 1) will now have the option to upgrade to the Challenger Plus (formerly Health Impaired Plan 2) during our “open enrollment period”. In addition new members of this category will have the option to enroll in either plan at the inception of their enrollment or during any future open enrollment period.
Increase in Emergency Medical Services benefit
In reviewing our plans, we have recognized that the current Emergency Medical Services benefit limit of CI$4,000 was insignificant in the event an air ambulance evacuation was required. As such, we have increased this benefit to CI$15,000. This increase will provide greater financial and medical protection to our insured.
Premium Discount Incentive Plan
We now offer a $2.00 discount on your premiums each month, for members who either enroll in our direct debit program or provide postdated cheques for (1) one year. Direct Debit application Forms are available on our website www.cinico.ky and postdated checks can be mailed or presented to the receptionist at CINICO. For direct debit payments, please ensure sufficient funds are available for your premiums on the first day of each month. Please note ‘Not Sufficient Funds’ (NSFs) for either direct debits or returned checks will result in a fee payable to CINICO and failure to address the non-payment within 45 days of due date will result in cancellation of coverage. (Please note we accept applications for all bank except First Caribbean Bank.)
New Premium Rates Effective August 1st, 2011
We at CINICO place great emphasis on containing our cost and maintaining our premium rates, these efforts have allowed us to sustain our existing rates for over 4 years now. However, the combination of increased utilization and the rising cost for both local and overseas healthcare has mandated an increase of our premiums for all of our plans. These premium rate increases will take effect on August 1st, 2011.
The following table summarizes the revised premium rates.
| Program | Coverage | Current Premium | Revised Premium |

| Silver | Single | $192 | $217 |
