- Coinsurance rules within the SHIC plans require the member to share in the cost of medical care. The medical plan will pay 80 percent of eligible medical charges above the deductible. The member is required to pay the remaining 20 percent. Once the coinsurance cap of $500 for plan 1 and $900 for plan 2 has been reached, all eligible expenses above these amount are paid in full up to the plans overall limit of coverage
